43 Actions Web App: 43actions.com

January 26, 2008
43 Actions New Feature: Email new actions.
As the second most highly requested feature (after Time zones), you are now able to email new actions to your account, and have them instantly appear in your Inbox. Simply go to the Settings and click on “generate newaction email”. Add the new email address to your iPhone’s or iPod touch’s Address Book. That’s it! You’re now able to brainstorm new actions to your 43 Actions account as fast as you can conjure up an email!
The Subject line in the email becomes the Name of the action, and everything in the Body gets added to the Notes. (So if you don’t need any Notes for the action, please make sure to delete all text from the body and only use the Subject field!)
Please be sure to keep this new email address safe and secure. If it should get compromised, we recommend that you immediately generate a new email address. This effectively disposes of the old address, and makes sure an illicit user can not spam your Inbox.
Some users have requested integration with Jott.com. A collaboration between 43 Actions and Jott—with their cool and very complementary service—could be quite valuable for all our users. In fact, we have already begun researching their API this very week. As it stands today, however, you should not add your newaction email to your Jott account. Since Jott sends you very stylized HTML-rich emails, the actions that would result in your Inbox would be quite worthless.
As a general rule: Do not send any HTML emails to 43 Actions. This could potentially fill up our database very quickly, and seriously impact both yours and others performance when using the application. Which is precisely why we have decided not to allow it. Regular plain text emails, sent from e.g. your iPhone or Mail.app in Mac OS X, is the best (and only) way to send your new actions. If you need to add some styled text (for example lists and bold text) to the notes, you can do so using the simple Textilize markup language.
This week’s bonus features: when you add an action to a new context—for example Someday/Maybe—it now no longer shows up in the main Inbox on the Home screen. So don’t be afraid if your Inbox is suddenly “lacking” some actions! They are still visible in their respective Contexts and Projects. Also, the Notes field is now hidden by default when creating or editing an action. (Both suggested by user Joe van Dyk.)
You can now click “Show all + archived actions” at the bottom of every project view, to see all archived/checked actions belonging to that particular project. (As suggested by user Graeme Brown.)
After we removed the behavior which makes the Address Bar on the iPhone hide itself after load (like in Google’s or Facebook’s iPhone applications), some of you begged to get it back. So now you have a checkbox in Settings to turn it off or on when ever you wish! (Craved by user kohlmannj, among others.)
Lastly, we added an “All Due Dates” button to the Agenda. This lists all actions with due dates, ordered with the most urgent dates on top.
That’s all for this week. But stay tuned—there’s more cool stuff in the pipeline for February! Peace out.
